How to Start Typing
Data: 2025-10-16
How to Start
Before you begin, make sure you are sitting comfortably at your desk and that the keyboard is positioned at a proper height. Rest your wrists lightly on the desk or keep them just above the keyboard so your fingers can move freely. Launch the ComputerKeyboard program and keep your eyes on the monitor.
Hand Positioning
Start by placing your hands correctly on the keyboard — position your index fingers on the keys with tactile bumps, and place the remaining fingers along the home row. This is known as the home row, the basic starting position for typing. Your left index finger should rest on the F key, and your right index finger on the J key.
Additional Keys
Locate the additional keys on your keyboard (Shift, Alt, AltGr) and practice coordinating your finger movements while using them.
- Shift – when pressed together with a letter, it produces uppercase letters; with numbers or symbols, it types the upper character on the key. (Practice using the little fingers of both hands.)
- CapsLock – make sure it is not activated accidentally.
- Alt / AltGr – allows you to type special or language‑specific characters depending on your keyboard layout.
Program Keys
- ENTER – start
- ESC – exit
- SPACE – increase range
Program Options
- KeyboardLayout – choose the keyboard layout
- Language – choose the language
System Settings
If you select a keyboard layout in the program that differs from the one installed in your operating system, add the appropriate layout in your system settings. You can also adjust the display by changing the scale or screen resolution.
Remember
- While practicing, look at the characters displayed on the monitor by the ComputerKeyboard program, not at the keyboard.
- Always maintain proper posture when working at your desk.
