Physical keyboard layout standard – defines the arrangement and shape of keys, including their sizes, spacing, and functions.

ANSI

  • ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
    The ANSI standard was formally defined in the American technical specification INCITS 154-1988, approved by ANSI. It features a horizontal (single-row) Enter key, a long left Shift key, and no additional key next to it.

  • JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard)
    Japanese layout. Includes extra keys for Japanese writing systems (kana, kanji), a smaller Enter key, and modified key placement.
  • KS (Korean Standard)
    Korean layout. Contains keys for entering Hangul characters. Physically similar to ANSI but with additional language-specific keys.
  • ABNT2 (Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas)
    Brazilian layout. ISO variant with an extra “<” key next to the left Shift and a dedicated “Ç” key. Facilitates typing in Portuguese.
